What other markers for visualising barreloids in the thalamus and barrelettes in the trigeminal complex would you recommend besides Cytochrome oxidase, VGLUT, Nissl? Also, does anyone have a better experience with VGLUT2 antibody other than Millipore MAB5504? I hope for a crisper picture, I understand that it would be diffuse by the nature of vesicular transporter, but I want to see more signal saturation within areas of dense afferent termination. I am speaking about adult animals, I know there are more markers for developing CNS. Any successful double-labeling protocols are especially appreciated.
If you want a crisper picture in trigeminal nucleus/VPM, CO should be good enough. Please check attached paper for the picture. Staining for AchE provides good visuals for boundaries of structures within cuneate nucleus (CO dark regions showing various hand areas). You can try that to visualise barellettes.
