In parasitology, we do a flotation test in a solution of zinc sulfate to easily classify the eggs for identification. It is known that eggs of Ascaris float only if fertilised. What change(s) does fertilisation bring, which helps the egg float?
Decreased density of fertilized Ascaris sp.eggs (less than or equal to approx. 1.2 g/cm3) compared to unfertilized (> 1.2 g/cm3.)

Here are some numbers on specific gravity that I came up with.
They can explain why fertile eggs float in Zinc-sulphate solution and why unfertilized eggs don't.
Unfortunately, the reason why their density changes when they get fertilized is not known to me.
Specific gravities:
Zinc-sulphate 33 % solution in water : 1,180
Egg of Ancylostoma duodenale : 1,055
Cyst of Giardia lamblia : 1,060
Egg of Ascaris lumbricoides (fertilized) : 1,110
Egg of Trichuris trichiura : 1,150
Cyst of Chilomastix mesnili : 1,180
Egg of Ascaris lumbricoides (unfertilized) : 1,200
Kind regards,
Idzi
