At Oklahoma State University (where I took my doctorate) we were taught to research and write in teams. We were also taught to divide the research on our dissertation into publishable segments and submit them as articles in peer reviewed journals. This left the graduate with a portfolio of peer reviewed publications that helped you get hired. The overall experience was amazing. But if there was any one point, they taught me not only to research, but to write well enough to get published.
Take the time to thoroughly understand your methodology and literature review studies in your dissertation so that you can apply the theories and methodologies used in your future research with ease.
