The autologous skin test consists in a normal blood sample, then subjected to centrifugation in order to separate the serous part, which is finally re-injected into the patient, with a puncture intradermally in the forearm. The procedure is painless, it takes about 2 hours in total. If wheals appears 30 min after intradermal injection in correspondence of the site of injection (it is shown the mechanism self-reactive urticaria, or autoimmune urticaria) the test is evaluated as positive. For a better yield, it is appropriate that being interrupted therapies that may interfere with the test, in particular anti-histamine drugs or steroids.
