Adoption of cloud technologies may be impeded by security and privacy issues if no practical solutions are efficiently implemented on the cloud.
what are the possible gaps in knowledge that can be researched on to support more hospitals adopting the cloud technologies for their patients' medical images, and ensure secured medical images sharing in the cloud?

I would say that too much emphasis is placed in this are of research on confidentiality because of regulation rather than focus on integrity protocols. Not just communications protocols but knowledgeable security detection techniques that can monitor threshold abuse, misdiagnosis, etc. This is not just a problem in patient misdiagnosis that can lead to malpractice,but it can become a vector of attack with serious implications, not to privacy of the patient but to his/her life.
Just a thought
An apparent knowledge gap could be the selection of the correct cloud type. A public cloud might be cheaper than a private cloud but entails a higher risk of data secrecy.
