I am trying to fabricate aluminum metal matrix composites. I want to fabricate them using new methods rather than obsolete methods... What are some techniques that are both available in India and not very expensive?
Friction stir processing is widely used for Al MMCs for its superior grain refinement leading to enhanced mechanical strength. You may try the combination of stir and squeeze casting.
For Development of Al-MMCs several new techniques are available such as sandwich processing, friction stir processing, vapor deposition process, microwave assisted processes, disintegrate melt deposition (DMD). The newly developed strategy provides better strength, stability and reduced scrap level compare to conventional process.

Friction Stir processing is the latest technique used for the fabrication of MMCs due to their benefits like grain refinement which improves the strength as mentioned by P. Samal as well. Moreover, if you think for the cost of fabrication, stir casting process is the cheapest of all the fabrication methods and each fabrication method has its own pros and cons which you can get from the literature.
