Good question and thus an extended answer is required.
From the plot of the integral of the emission spectra over temperature, e.g. from 3 to 500 K you can derive the thermal quenching curve, whereby the turning point of this Boltzman-Sigmoidal function (Struck-Fonger plot) is the so called thermal quenching temperature. Quenching temperature and evetnually the chape of the quneching curve is dependent on a bunch of different quenching mechanisms, such as energy transfer to defect sites, multiphonon relaxation, photoionsation, reabsorption, and cross-relaxation. Moreover, activation of excited states can occur, which in turn might yield quenching of the main PL process, which is for instance important for Mn4+ phosphors.
The plot of the decay time over temperature will give at low temperature (3 K) the radiative lifetime trad. of an activator in a given environment (the host), which is important for the calculation of the so-called internal quantum yield, which is defined as the ratio t/trad. (t = determined decay time at any temperature).
For YAG:Ce trad. is at 65 ns (see Chem. Mater 21 (2009) 2077), while it is 54 ns for LuAG:Ce (our measurements).
