Rhizon samplers extract small volumes of pore water from soil and sediments, in an easy, non-destructive way. They can be used for sampling water from unsaturated soils as well as from saturated zones.
Do you have good/bad experience with them sampling soil solutions to analyse metals/ trace elements? Could you tell pros and cons of field measurements?
I have used the rhizon samplers to extract the pore-water in sediments. It worked very well. In unsatured soils, in my case, did not work. I left the samplers 24h in situ but it not extracted anything. I believed that in satured zones the samplers will work very well.
Thank you Carla! That is what a colleague suggested, who also worked with the rhizom samplers in Vega soils after flood events. I think it would be also critical to use them, when there is a lot of coarse material within the soil matrix.
