You are right while sahying that in the post-modern era, there has been an explosion in the numbers of children not attending school because their parents have decided that it is better for their children to learn at home for different reasons. I do not think much of this type of education. There is accumulated evidence that shows that interaction with peers plays a crucial role in the child's cognitive, social, moral, and emotional development. To play with their schoolmates. for example, is part and parcel of a harmomious development and education. When the child is deprived of this educational tool, his/her psychological development and education is doomed to being, as it were, truncated and incomplete. Parents should be taught that home educaton alone is not good for the child's psychological development.

Home schooling could be attractive to certain parents because it shifts the control of education from the school to the family. With home schooling there is more freedom about choosing the curriculum, the pace and methods of teaching. Assuming that some parents can make better choices on these matters than the society in which they are part of, then these benefits of home schooling exist. But, if parents are less knowledgeable about these issues, then home schooling could result in less favorable choices for the home educated children. Moreover, schools offer a unique socialization experience for children which cannot be substituted by the family. Schools do not offer just knowledge and the possibility to learn but also the possibility to make friends, learn about social groups, power relations and other matters. Unless there are very peculiar circumstances relating to the child or the environment in which s/he is living, then I believe that school education offers greater benefits than home schooling. Parents could choose (if possible) the right school for their children. They can always influence the learning and experiences of their children. But they are parents and not teachers. Even if other people are in charge of their children at home and they do not teach their children themselves, with homeschooling they deny their children of a unique socialization process which takes place at schools.

But, what about bullying and racism in schools, are not they damaging for kids, that they have to take years to recover from their childhood traumas.
For me, home schooling is the choice for many reasons.
I agree with Olympia that the quality of education in home education is less affective than the study at schools as the learners gain a lot of learning from their peers. There is also a kind of competition among students at school which is the best learning environment for them. Interaction between teachers and students is more active at schools.
It can not stand alone. It may support systematic schools education.

Home education may be good but lacks in essential areas. School education must.
Home education can not be compared with regular schooling. However, there are certain families who can't afford to send their children to regular schools. Therefore, homeschooling seems a practical option for them.
It prevents students (mostly our children) from developing the interpersonal skills required to reach their true potential in life.
