I agree, being happy at work depends heavily on the way you look at your job and your colleagues, so it is important for individuals to make their development in their work a priority.
Only 10 minutes? I work a lot with my students on how we can collaborate to make the learning prosess during their studies as meaningfull, relevant and usefull as posssible. We also put a lot of effort in building relations between the students. Students who experience that the master program they are attending is meaningful, relevant and usefull and also get to experience the joy of collaboration are very clear that being a student also can consist of a lot of happiness.
Farangis Shahidzade - Examples of how: My students are often asked what associations and relations they have to the topic at hand. What do they know about this? What do they find hard to understand? How would they like to collaborate to explore the topic at hand and maybe even try to find practical applications? Students in groups that are exploring and trying to improve their knowledge, especially in relation to usefull real world applications, suprisingly often work together with growing passion. This passion of «finding out» and «doing better» often makes the learning prosess more like a bi-effect. The students grow and my collegues and me often witness development that far exceeds our expectations. I am proud to admit that in these situations at it's best I am learning at least as much as my master students. The key to sucess are the questions the teachers ask, the well structured groups and that the students are willing to commit to simple collaboration rules.
Farangis Shahidzade Basic rules for collaboration that work well in student groups: I speak for me. I will try to understand my fellow students with charity, interest and respect (inspired by the principle of charity from Donald Davidsons philosophy of language). I will have a constructive attitude. No questions are stupid. Remember to have fun. Have focus on what you can learn from your fellow students more than what they «should» learn from you.
Educational ecology must be the happy one; for me, Happy environment is, that is just, and fair towards everyone. For others, happiness can be very different, can vary from person to person.
Having 10 minutes of happiness is a good idea, making everyone happy is little tricky, but, still we can try.
