The important statistic of World Health Organization shows at one year about 287000 women died most of them during and following pregnancy and childbirth in Africa and south Asia....
I think there is considerable scope for using Android technology to address maternal health.
The first is for health workers to keep track that protocols of antenatal care, safe delivery care and PNC care are met. This also applies to safe abortion care, where legal, and screening for any violence during and after pregnancy.
The second use is for sharing maternal health information (and sexual and reproductive health and rights information) to pregnant women and her partner. Further, these services can be used to access ambulance services. However this may work only if network coverage is there.
The third use is for preventing unwanted pregnancies - information on contraceptives for adolescent girls and boys, as well as women who do not want any more children
Yet another use is for strengthening accountability of providers for services. Feedback is easier to give to a toll free number than face to face.
