You can pick any numbers of vectors and say why they're your favorites (what designed fragments make it useful to you).
Another way to ask this is, what "parts" in plasmids (MCS, LIC, certain Ori of rep etc) have you like in your research, what induction/suppression systems made them wonderful.
Lastly, what would the perfect plasmid look like to you for your research (be innovative, you can pick a manufactured plasmid here, but if you could build it better, what would you add/remove from it?)
Use of plasmids depends upon what type of fragment you want to clone. It also depends upon what is your objective after cloning?
I agree with Hitesh and to add on, it also depends on the host that you'll be transforming your plasmid into if you're planning to some expression studies.

I'm asking this hypothetically, so all hosts and model organisms are fair game. I'm just trying to get a broad view of what's out there, what people are actually using, and what people actually like.
I like pJET1.2 mainly because it consists of a lethal gene. Only recombinant plasmids (pJET + gene of interest) are capable of propagating. So you don't have to worry about not getting a gene cloned into the vector. However, you can still get false positive clones with this system.
As for protein expression and purification, your best bet will be pET systems. I've worked with pET200 and the results were pretty good. I managed to extract and purify a stable recombinant protein from this system.

Why do you stick to ready made vectors? It is so easy to create exactly what you need in most cases. Just combine the features you need and accept no limitations in the nature of available vectors. This facilitates matters.
