We had a 10 yr old female with very extensive sinonasal polyp, eroding ant maxillary bone and presenting as an exophytic mass over the left cheek. It looked like malignancy but HPR showed its benign nature. My questions related to this are:
1. How common is this in your experience ?
2. Are there any good indexed rhinology or other journals which you would recommend for describing such a case ?
No it is not a haemangiopericytoma. It is a different entity. Inflammatory sinonasal polyps are classified into five types: edematous, glandular, fibrous, cystic and angiectatic nasal polyp (ANP).
I have some experience with these aggressive polyps. The diagnosis would be allergic fungal rhinosinusitis or fungal sinusitis. The later is non invasive fungal sinusitis with massive bone erosions . Multiplle radioopaque shadows within the polyps are diagnostic.

But these polyps are not due to fungal sinusitis or allergic fungal rhino sinusitis.
There was heterogenous enhancement on contrast scans suggestive of a more vascular nature. No typical radio-opaque shadows.
Biopsy was done before complete excision and also the entire specimen was sent for HPR later on, these reports did not mention any fungal element or any relation to fungal aetiology.
They reported atypical spindle cells, large ectatic blood vessels with amorphous esosinophilic storma - this was suggestive of an angiectatic nasal polyp( ANP) .
You can go through this article, attached to this reply. They had a similar case but ours was very extensive compared to this and also in a paediatric age group ( 10 year old female patient).
