What is your comments on Prof. Uta Frith's suggestion on restricting every researcher to one paper publication a year? Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I personally consider that the suggestion of the main question of the discussion thread would create more problems than it would solve.
The problem, in my opinion, is not in the number of publications. The problem is the number of co-authors. Very often people who do not have a creative contribution are included in the list of co-authors (for various reasons). And not any restrictions stop them. Same time, I know people who do dozens of independent publications, and there are people who work much less productively. But the proposal to limit the number of publications will hit primarily people who really work, and not just put signatures.

In my view publishing 1 article in a year is good rather than publishing more. But when author having more people network chances for publishing more articles are possible. It doesn't meant that the researchers quality is bad

I do share her views. Meanigful research takes a long while to crystallize. Along with lecturing and project supervision, an academic researcher should aim for one academic publication a year as sole or main author. However, to gradually introduce their budding academics into the world of publication, they should be willing to co-author another 1 or 2 papers with their mentees.
Purplish 1 article as first author and co-author 1-3 depending on the doctoral students you mentor or your network is OK in addition to teaching

Personally, I think that quality should be the focus than number of publication/s per year.
Why should we have the impression that when one is publishing more per unit time quality of work will be compromised? If we do then we're oblivious of the fact that today's Researcher should be partaking transdisciplinary research which in itself means collaborative work and more outputs. Or else we are suggesting that collaborative research efforts are devoid of quality?

I am disagree with this suggestion, in many cases we as a researcher need to publish many papers in one year, and in medical issue, existance of a virus (like Corona in china) needed many papers in a very short time.
Publishing one paper per year does not necessarily produce quality research. People may publish many quality articles per year. I do not agree with the professors statement.
The researcher can publish more than one article per year with quality research and original paper, especially when more than one researcher participate in these articles.

If the research paper is more meaning full and fruitful to the reader if the paper is proving a one idea at a time. As well that idea is well supported when t present through a single paper. Hence if you are doing good research, it will generate a number of research papers. Then I feel, multiple research papers indicate good research.
