What is the 'Search for Meaning"; as well, what is the 'meaning' of meaning?

For the "Pursuit of Happiness" to ensue, there must be a 'meaning'. Yet; what causes that 'meaning' , why is it caused, and; moreover, what does meaning even mean? It almost appears to me as though, this is one of those 'which came first' questions; i.e. the 'pursuit of happiness' in search of 'meaning' or the 'search of meaning' for the 'pursuit of happiness?'
