Does any one know what is the theoretical point of weakness in the lateral skull and what bones is it formed of?
And If someone was diagnosed with an intra-cranial haemorrhage
what is the most likely blood vessel from which the haemorrhage is originating and through which opening does this artery enter the skull base?
Also what would be the most common type of haemorrhage and what is the anatomical basis for this.
The pterion is the region where the frontal, parietal, temporal, and sphenoid bones join together. It is located on the side of the skull, just behind the temple.

The anterior medial meningial artery is just below the pterion and can be greatly involved upon a blow to the pterion
Pterional part of temporal bone (Also known as temple of the skull) is the weakest part of the skullbone
There are three types of intracranial haemorrhages so to speak:
1) Extradural haemorrhage - Most common source would be the middle meningeal artery arising from the maxillary artery which traverses the foramen spinosum
2) Subdural haemorrhage - Most common source would be the cerebral bridging veins
3) Subarachnoid haemorrhage - Most common source of a non traumatic source would be circle of willis aneurysm
-Pterion is an important landmark for the anterior branch of the middle meningeal artery, which underlines this area on the inside of the skull. It is not a single point but an area where the frontal, parietal, squamous part of the temporal and greater wing of the sphenoid bone adjoin one another.
