When people from Africa who are black in color, when they reach other countries out of Africa are called...African bla bla, however same white in color from Africa are excluded. Does this means Africa is for blacks , how other countries view Africa
Not so long that there was issues in relation to the president of USA who was alleged to have said ...africa is a sh*#*#hole country. On my view..the name Africa should fall off and we adopt our own name..infact..where is the word Africa come from, what is its meaning. Does the word Africa represent me having African descendent. I believe the word has much of colonial than benefit of its original people. MOST countries in Africa are colonised or were to fulfil the coloniser perapectives. Maybe its right time for Africa start to define itself.
Let me agree with Brother Kayode's view and go beyond that. Black means bad things and the behaviour of many Africans is synonymous with evil. Talk of any unimaginable thing, it sprys in Africa. So, it may not really be an issue of colour but a continent that has remained backward in spite of the abundance of natural resouces. Certainly, many black people from other clime are doing well despite the colour.
The perspective of black ascribed to Africans can only change when they when they begin to think and act right.
Why did Trump asked them are you humans? Just immagine have you heard that an elite in developed world loot his country and stockpile the loot in Africa? How many of such from Africa can be found in advanced countries?
Concepts of Africa showed that different people view it as place where they stay, and showing their historical and social cultural identities. It is suggest that Africans have to reclaim their self-identity that was clouded by colonisation and slavery. The aim of this argument is to identify if retaining the term Africa do make sense to Africans.
Several studies alluded that the origin of Africa remains disputed. Several scholars argued that Africa comes from an Arabic word that means “the untied land” and was given this name by the King named Malek-Afriki, according to Africanus after conquering the Northern part of Africa .It was also argued that the Southern part of Africa was never called “Africa” but Ethiopia before as it was occupied by black people.
African has become the core part of identity for many people who are residing in it, despite that several literatures still dispute the origin of the importance of the word “Africa”. It is very important for us to step on the way of self-determination in order address what the imperialist and colonisation did to the continent. Study found that Berber (The Banu Ifren tribe of Berbers) speaking population in Northern Africa were central mix to politics, cultural, social and linguistic, that renders the area distinct. The ancestor of these native group, were previously known as Iforen, Ifren or Afer. When the Arabs arrived, they were known as “inhabitants of Ifrigiya”, translated as Africa. However, the Latin meaning of Afer is “take away”. Does this suggest that the Africans have to be taken away by Latin citizens? I am of the belief that this might have contributed to imperialism, colonisation and slavery.
The extent of foreign imperialism has the influence towards the political, cultural, economic and social life of the indigenous people, resulting into transformation of ideas institution that remains problematic. This western imperialism has much influence on colonizing land, mind, and resources of indigenous people who turned to be labourers into their land. Such influence has created confusion to the people resulting to political instability and civil wars, hunger and language- cultural identity.
Several organisations such as United Nations, G8, WHO and World Bank that hold conferences whereby many western countries organise and execute the activities of the Africa continent in order to maximise their economic and political agenda. The structuring and coordination of such organisation are created in a way that any group or people in Africa are unable to understand or have input for their continent. Africa remains excluded from decision making of United Nations (UN) currently, except few countries that are seen having power to influence the others.
Most of western colonisers see Africa as source of mineral resources, as such they created borders that has mostly isolated old demarcations done during old Africa empires, and has created some countries to have many different languages that are very distinct cultures, which resulted to birth of Apartheid in South Africa and tribal civil war in Sierra Leon and Rwanda.
Beside Western colonisers bringing legal system, healthcare system, education system and technology, all did not come free, Africa remain poor with more governments being pressured to give more resources while if not, risk of losing support .Withdrawal of HIV/AIDS funds and threat by USA in South Africa on allowing them to sell their products that are not needed are the example. The Western colonisers gave Africa independence but they never left to allow Africa for Africans to manage their affairs. Africa’s socio-economic independence has never been free from them.
Western community associate Africa as useless country with its people. This view might have encouraged the King of Swaziland into changing the country name into “the Kingdom of eSwatini” in order to link themselves with their identity.
Africa must run its African agenda that is not dependant to Western countries following Pan African philosophy and ideas of fore fathers. In that regard it makes sense to change the name Africa into what African people desire.
They are all entitled to their own views and stereotypes which has been easily influcence by media and movies . One common universal view is that Africa is a rich continent in terms of natural and human resources but not yet fully developed. Global politics and international conspiracies have done more harm to Africa if they all do a reality check. The history of Africa and Africans are hidden and untold.
