Longer dry periods within the growing season are predicted for temperate grassland ecosystems. Yet, knowledge on threshold or tipping points of grassland ecosystem functioning under drought is still missing. This information is indispensable to set proper management strategies against increasing drought periods.

Can you give me some suggestions about general thresholds or tipping points for soil water content related to drought? We have a reference: Breda et al., 1995 Tree Physiology about a threshold for water availability for trees. They considered a value of 0.4 relative extractable water (40% below field capacity) for physiological response and lower values can be related to plant damages. Many thanks in advanced. Alberto
