"l" - distance between the rollers carrying the load

Note: The specimen with dimensions 80mm*10mm*4mm and 50mm*25mm*1mm were tested but unfortunately didn't fail. (DIN EN ISO 178)
Query: How does the use of notch effect the test?
The dimensions of the final specimen depend on the depth of the specimen manufactured and the span-to-depth ratio. I would suggest ASTM D6272 which analytically explains the specimen's dimensions depending on the manufacturing proccess and the depth of the specimen manufactured.
In similar cases we have been used three-point bending test. For the sample having sizes 80mm*10mm*4mm, given strain 3.5% and the relation L/h = 16 (where L is a distance between supporting rollers, h is a thickness of sample) the deflection will be equal 1.5h. This is not very large for the thermoplastic polymer material as Polyamide 12. So, to achieve failure, the notch in tension zone of sample will be useful. All the best, Serge
