Calculation of IBW is mainly based on Metropolitan tables. I ask about a program for simple calculation of the IBW.
I think height minus 101 for male and height minus 105 for female is easiest way
1 am 180 -101= so ideal wt fr me is 79
But this does not take into consideration the body frame. Some males are large-framed and this makes your equation not suitable.

The simplest formula for IBW (Ideal Body Weight) is for men: 5 feet =106 and for every inch above 5 feet you add 6 lbs; for each pound under you subtract. I.E., a male that is 5 ft. 11 in = (106+ (11*6)) the answer would be 172 lbs.
4 ft. 9 in = (106-(3*6) + (9*6)) the answer would be 142 lbs
For women instead of using 106 lbs and 6 lbs you would substitute 100 lbs and 5 lbs.
Use the Adjusted Body Weight for those that are 30% or higher:
Male~ (actual weight-IBW)*.38+IBW=
Female~ (actual weight- IBW)*.32+IBW=
I.E.,
380 lbs @ 6 ft. 1 in (with an IBW of 184) in Male~ (380-184)*.38+ 184=258.48 lbs
288 lbs @5 ft. 11 in (with an IBW of 155) in Female~ (288-155)*.32+155= 197.56 lbs
Frame Adjustment:
Large frame: IBW + (IBW*.10)
Small frame: IBW - (IBW*.10)
I.E.,
Large framed Female 288 lb/ 5'11= IBW of 155
155 + (155*.10) = 170.5
Small framed Female 288 lb/ 5'11= IBW of 155
155 - (155*.10) = 138.5

What's the reference for that formula? Do you know what was the population they used for obtaining this formula???

we have a few formulas in the literature, but it also depends on the medical condition of the patient, ethnicity, age, and frame. hence a range is always good and BMI pretty much addresses with its own limitations. individualization is needed in this range of optimum BMI.
