The study of circulating power within planetary gear trains is very important for designing new hybrid transmissions with multi-path power flow. A major issue in this field is that of detecting possible power re-circulation within the system elements. This phenomenon, which is a result of the relative motion of the gear members, is considered because power re-circulation does not produce any useful output work. The problem of power re-circulation has a significant effect on the performance and efficiency of hybrid transmissions.
