Conferences are more for research outcomes sharing, knowledge sharing, networking etc. Whereas workshops are more for training, learning & brainstorming. In some conferences, workshops are embedded as part of the events etc.

Conferences and workshops have been well used to bring research findings to practitioners. They give the opportunity of knowledge sharing and learning from new researches. But in any case, we can not put in the margins the tourism aspect, which is not so bad especially for those (researchers) who are full time under the pressure of work.

Networking

It depends upon the history and the aim of the organizer. If the organizer is dedicated and keen to make the conference or the event an added value, he will be careful in selecting topic, filtering the participants and keynote speakers and therefore gathering of scientists and researchers will drive big change into the topic. If it of commercial nature, it will be an opportunity to fund raising to the organization. Apart from both cases, conferences and events are outstanding social opportunity for participants to meet and exchange knowledge and experience and also promoting their affiliations.
