IoT permits better connections between products, machines, orders... Consequently, this will allow more personnalization as the customer can track its product all over its manufacturing process. As all machines and all products can communicate, better planning and scheduling can be perfomed based on real time state of the system, hence faster delivery can be obtained...
Many other performances can be improved by mean of IoT. These are just d'amples.
IoT can also use as quality control tool, so that we can get actual and real time information about the production processes and the various defects or resections occurred during the production at the exact position and situation.
We use IoT as a productivity control tool so that we can get real-time and online information about production processes and various failures during production at the exact position and location of the failing resource .
In my view, IoT in manufacturing is not a new phenomenon. Process monitoring devices were existing even before. However, the problem was with the data storage and analysis. With new technological advancements such as cloud IT infrastructure and analytical tools, the concept became prominent (along with enterprise 4.0 and Industry 4.0). On the industry side,,adoption of IoT is still in nascent stage, due to lack of awareness, concerns about data security and required investments in devices and data management.
IoT will bring dramatic changes in Manufacturing industries. Connecting, monitoring and controlling devices/mahines/equipment will be significantly easier than ever before.
In German, they have "Industry 4.0". In China, "Make in China 2025". It reshaps the national manufacturing strategy and organization's operations strategy.
There are essentially two different roles that the IoT can play in manufacturing. It can connect the “things” that make your product—machines and equipment—to potentially make your manufacturing processes run more smoothly. This is the role sensors and ADC have traditionally played, although in a somewhat limited way. Or you can tap into data collected or generated by your products, making them “smart” products, hopefully using that data to benefit the customer and build your business.
IIoT has the power to transform manufacturing by connecting the entire supply chain more effectively. What should you be doing to take advantage of the IIoT revolution? Companies need to take a hard look at where they stand in the connected world and change their mindset so that they will be able to take full advantage of all that IIoT has to offer. It can be a bold new step into the future, but it will certainly be one that provides incredible advantages to those willing to venture outside their comfort zone...
