Reliability is the degree to which an assessment tool produces stable and consistent results. but i have difficulty understanding about validity. looking for help. thank you
Reliability is a feature related to the test scores, but validity is the characteristic of the test itself. AS such, validity is the extent to which a test purports what it claims to measure. For instance, a listening comprehension test should only measure the listening construct and nothing else. Of course, validity is a complex issue and comes in different types. For this reason, many advocate a systemic validity which addresses both consequential and evidential bases underlying the targeted test.

As I could understand, reliability and validity are must and important in research to test ourselves whether we are going in proper direction or not. Reliability and validity in industrial engineering approach may have a different meaning. However in speaking on general research, reliability is the consistency of readings coming from instruments fitted to experimental set up. The instruments fitted to the set up are to be calibrated in regular intervals so that false readings will not be recorded. When coming to calculations, in doing research one should get nearly close values to the values got by earlier researchers, this is validity. However, the comparison of our values to others in literature, if they are close, signifies that a perfect validity is done.
