A bigger ion (such as Zn(II)) was substituted with part of other ion (Co(II)) in aluminate spinel. The lattice parameter (a) consequently increased but the average crystal size (d by XRD) decreased! why did the average crystal size decreasing occur while the lattice parameter was increased?
