There are numerous attempts to make bitcoin more sustainable. The largest benefit of $BTC right now however is that it acts as the "reserve currency" in the crypto world. Most other coins, if not priced in $USD, are priced in $BTC. I don't know if the technology will really remain popular, in the long run. I do think others will become the primary technology. But Bitcoin is still important as a proof of concept technology.
It's also unfair to compare Bitcoin transactions to things like VISA transactions, because the former involves establishing a persistent, decentralized and distributed record and bitcoin acts as not just a means of conducting transactions, but also as a system of storing wealth, and is an alternative to banks. We would therefore have to consider things like the energy usage of the automated clearing house system, cost to produce physical currency and supply it to banks, etc.
the digital coin (Bitquin) extraction methods is hampering efforts to achieve sustainability Therefore, the more this depletion leads to the destruction of efforts to achieve sustainability
Thank you Daniel Goldman , there are multiple aspects of the digital coin (Bitquin) , it has great prospects in the global economy, but the other side is the negative impact on sustainability, for consuming very large amounts of electricity without any benefit
