The Schools Division of Masbate Province conducted an onsite assessment on the implementation of the flagship reading and numeracy program, the LAMBAT and KATIG, a program initiated by the division to augment literacy and numeracy.

Based on the assessment result, 98% of Grade 3 learners in Pablo M. Conag Central School are non-numerates. Out of 53 learners assessed, only 1 learner or 2% considered as numerate. This alarming result really needs thorough understanding as to the causes of lower numeracy rate in the school.

The said result can be connected from the past assessment results such as RMA or Rapid Math Assessment conducted last School Year 2022-2023 where the same group of learners got lower percentage ratings on numeracy assessment.

Understanding on the simple math problems or statements should be developed among these group of learners since mathematics does not only deal on figures but also highlights on mathematical equations used in word problems that really needs critical thinking and comprehension.

The perennial problem of the school is how to help this 98% of non-numerate learners to become numerates so that as they step to higher grades these learners can cope up with the competencies and skills that they really need to acquire especially in mathematics.
