HDPE samples were aged at higher temperatures in the presence of water and CO2 than the TGA test was performed in Nitrogen? Weight gain is seen in the curve? What could be the possible reason for that?
Hafiz.... If you mean that 0.2 % occurred heating up to 200 o C, forget about it. It usually occurs as a sort of stabilization of the instrument. You even do not need to mention in the discussion. On the contrary the TG curve needs to be completed until the decomposition is finished.. Regards
Since it has happened in ambient temperature, I think it is negligible. However, if I were you I would heat up the specimen at around 100 C for at least an hour to make sure the moisture is completely removed. So the TGA experiment could be more accurate.
