I have synthesized the CeO2 nanorod by an appropriate hydrothermal method using Na2S as the base with the aim of HTL catalyst production. but there has been a noteworthy observation which is the Ni/CeO2 color changing from white-yellow to kind of brownish color in the furnace with proper flow of argon as inert gas, that engaged my mind. Did you approach with the same observation???

Change in color in an inert atmosphere can only happen due to change in the chemical or in the mineral structure of the substance.
It can occur due to volatile loss, or due to oxidation/reduction among the substance's constituents, or can occur a simple change in the substance's mineral structure.
It is not something unusual.

Exactly about oxidation/reduction reaction, I'm so curious to know about whats happens in the Ceria under higher temperature degrees
and would it be cause of an oxygen shortage in the structure of this mineral structure???

I am not 100% sure but the reason of brownish color can be that in presence of cerium oxide, nickel ion is reduced to metallic nickel at elaveted temperatures under inert atmosphere.
