I got some crystals for UMCM-1 related MOF (trying something new). I used 4,4′,4″-s-Triazine-2,4,6-triyl-tribenzoic acid and terephthalic acid (H2BDC) as ligands. Crystals did not loose its crystallinity when it is in ethanol solution but when I remove from the solution, the crystallinity is lost. What could be the reason for this? Kindly suggest me how to record single-crystal XRD?
Desolvation might be the main cause. If the formed crystalline structure is solvated, it happen many times that upon exposure to air/nitrogen gas, the solvent molecule leaves the structure, which then collapses - looses crystallinity. Try maybe transferring your crystals into an oil and measure at low temp.

You could also use a capillary tube in order to maintain your crystals inside mother liquor.
