In fact the fall of platelets is related to our immune defense. It turns out that the lymphocytes (CD 4 and CD 8) to try to combat the virus also end up destroying platelets. Dengue hemorrhagic fever usually affects people who have had other forms of dengue fever (milder) and so the memory cells of our immune system react more strongly generating excess substances to combat the virus and end up affecting also the platelets. This, coupled with the fact that viruses cause fragility of blood capillaries and cause hemorrhagic dengue.
