Ag sorption in static condition is giving better result than shaker condition. As per the literature surveyed, it could be attributed to involvement of weak linkages such as wander Vaals linkage or H-bond. However, when I keep the flasks (that were earlier in static condition) on shaker for 1 hr (to check if sorbed metal is released back into the system) there is no significant desorption observed. What could be the possible reason?
Just speculation -
using a shaker concentration of different species is quite equal. Sounds strange that mechanical action on a shaker has any influence on H-bonds and van der Waal interactions.
Do not know if level of oxygen or CO2 has any influence. Dissolution rate of these would be faster during shaking.
Due to slower equilibration of silver ions in the layer around the adsorbent one would expect slower reach of equilibrium but no change in amount adsorbed in equilibrium.
What is the adsorbent? May this contribute ions or does it change upon contact with water?
More adsorption are involved in balance of surface charges, so in this case, It could be due to silica surface become negative and Ag ion as positive in nature as free ion will strongly adsorbed through O - Ag.
