The inguinal ligament or Poupart ligament extends from spina iliaca anterior superior to tuberculum pubicum. Besides it is a landmark and it joins to the formation of the inguinal canal, one of its main functions is to protect neurovascular structures and frequently moving anatomical structures (muscles) by attaching them to deeper tissues. Namely, it helps to psoas major to erect the truncus by making the muscle closer to deeper structures. In this way, it helps to increase the efficacy of muscle contraction.
