I think it'll depend a lot on how effective the new vaccines are on the mutant. In any case we know a lot more now than when COVID-19 was first named. That's the good news.
I believe that we need to strengthen the immune defenses of the world population by using vitamin D. This is in fact a powerful immunomodulator. The pandemic was less intense in areas of the planet where sun exposure naturally favors the formation of vitamin D. Even going to the beach is a useful remedy in my opinion!
