Die answer is: Self-awareness of man into his own limitations of knowledge and ability
Self-awareness of the impossibility of answering the simple question: Where do I come from, where am I going?
Self-awareness could imply the idea and the hopeful trust that there must be a higher being, a higher dimension of reality to answer these questions. But this is not wisdom: It is religion.
The source of religion is self-awareness of the fact that man assigns himself to such a higher deity or reality, existence and identity in order to entrust himself to this higher one, even to submit completely to him. This dimension in human life is - in its institutionalized form - religion. Religion is a force that demands something from man: faith. The worst thing for a god is when he doesn't get credit. That is why religion, at least the monotheistic religion, threatens with punishment. Man gains his inner freedom in religion by professing to be dependent on God.
Now there is a second dimension (besides religion) from the insight into the imperfection, risk burden and defectiveness of man, on which man can orient himself. That is the wisdom. It does not exclude religion, but it can certainly exist without religion. While religion is an act of submission of man to a higher being based on tradition or free decision, wisdom is free of submission. She is modest and dependent on herself, on man himself. There is something for yourself and others: Insights into a possibility of existence that makes sense to life. It contains a truth of life, which often contains instructions for action, i.e. a moral dimension.
Let us take the wisdom: "Whatever you do, act wisely and consider the end." This wisdom lives from the insight that man often acts out of greed or that, in order to experience a pleasurable moment, he does not consider possible negative consequences. Wisdom does not mean a collection of proverbs or commonplaces, but lives from the fact that a recognized limitation in human knowledge and behaviour is carried with dignity.
Wisdom depends on situation in some case showing being aware is wisdom while in others keeping quiet. So to define wisdom I will say analyzing conditions and acting accordingly.
