The Amazon, the world's largest tropical forest, is spread across 9 countries (Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, French Guyana, Guyana and Suriname). The reduction of forests in these fires will affect rainfall regimes and their variability in that region. Climate change has made fires increasingly frequent, not unthinkable is the disinterest of governments with such important issues.
With climate change, fires increase, we lose more wooded areas (carbon sinks), the average temperature continues to rise. It is sad that politicians see scientists concerned with the issue as "sensationalist scientists"
Not great for a forest that has been cultivated for fruit with soil that was generated over hundreds of years by humans. I expect the secondary succession will be very low. Definitely not good for the endemics of Bolivia.
This is purely my own opinion, for dejection apologies,
I think this is the right time for either a researcher or non researcher to take an action and first help to increase the green area near by and equally in the amazon forest by donating the plant on https://onetreeplanted.org, at one dollar and take as many action to grow the plants and saplings near, far and every where.
Now it is the time for to take action than to talk about it on the virtual world or social media.
As now it is our responsibility to save future for our future generations and equally for us also.
Equally should try to avoid the use of plastic and polythene, if possible these should be banned.
Everybody talks about the Amazon forest, but there are people living inside the forest who have raised the alarm to save it. These are the only people who can speak about the forest.
Since 2007 there are forest fires all around the globe which did not happen before at such big scale. Climate change will bring new disasters every year and many new surprises. No good news.
Luiz Signates Sir, It is great that you raised such a relevant issue. Extinguishing the fire is not the biggest challenge, the biggest challenge is extinguishing the fire of greed. We all know, this earth has enough for our need but not for our greed. Don't you think that if we have the capability to land on moon and mars, extinguishing this fire could never have been a big deal? Nevertheless, We public as a whole is also responsible for this mess. a collective unidirectional public movement could force any government to change their opinion. Perhaps, we don't have time to think about these petty issues, as we are busy planning our settlements at mars or moon. Having said that, let me remind that "unity is a strength" is not only a slogan. Time and again people have seen its magic. The renowned researcher and agencies should vociferously raise this issue at various platforms through their actions, and writings. But the problem is - " who will bell the cat?"
