Certainly, there is a focus on making learning environments more flexible with the use of digital technology. I think the future of digital learning would be having access to learning anywhere and anytime outside the traditional classroom. The attached elaborates more on this topic.

E-Learning and the Workplace, available at https://www.researchgate.net/publication/254583111_E-Learning_and_the_Workplace, may be of interest. That article notes that many work arrangements discourage learning. In organizations, classroom instruction is obviously not the most efficient method. However, if e-learning is to justify the publicity that surrounds it, there is a great need to understand its organizational environment and to evolve design principles. For educational institutions there is also Learning in a Flash, available at https://www.researchgate.net/publication/266477068_Learning_in_a_Flash. That article explains that text is no longer the primary means of learning transfer. Character-based simulation, in which animated characters provide a social context that motivates learners, can improve cognition and recall and bodes well for high-impact e-learning.
Digital learning could be only a supplement to conventional learning. Supervised learning should always precede unsupervised learning in whatever the domain be. Learning should always be from known-to-unknown!!!!
digital learning has many advantages, no doubt! But in my opinion it has also a higher danger in forgetting to use our hands for learning. Doing this we reach higher levels of learning efficiency because our brain is used to be more stimulated by using both, hands in combination with brain.
Think Virtual Reality (VR) & Augmented Reality (AR) can be parts of digital learning that have revolutionized our learning vs previously. You can refer to the following links for further information & use cases of VR & AR:
Hello all, The world of research scientists and even at each levels of education have accepted the importance of sharing the knowledge . The knowledge becomes global when it is on web and it can help to proceed in our respective fields of study. So it definitely has gained importance and will be getting more. The only drawback which I feel is dependency and less use of our creative brain which u have to control. As Peter has already mentioned in his view. E.g. We don't give exercise to our brain for remembering numbers , events, plans, etc.
