The first part of identifying cases and reporting is a case series and the second part is the survey to find out if others also had seen such cases. If you have data on the number of paediatric cases in a clinic or hospital then the prevalence can be calculated, The probability distribution of rare occurrences follows the Poisson distribution.

The thing that I'm going to do is to get the numbers of the parents whom their children got the infection, then I'm gonna send them a survey to asess their children exposure to specific risk factors that i belive as a researcher those risk factors are the cause of this sudden outbreak of this rare infection in my region, and also the survey will contain some questions assessing psychological wellbeing of the parents after their children got infected by this rare infection like depression and anxiety.
The problem I'm facing is that I'm confused of the scientific name of the method i used here. is it " A case series design targeting the parents" as I already mentioned according to reference 8. or is it " Retrospective study"

"Retrospective studies" are any studies where people are asked to look back at past events and answer now how they felt back then. So for example, if you ask "When your child got the diagnosis, how did you feel?", thats retrospective. The opposite is a prospective study: asking someone this question immediately as the event happens, e.g asking the parents this directly in the doctor's office on the day of their child's diagnosis.
"Case series design" is more about how you recruit and select your participants.
So, in total, your study is both: it asks questions about the past and you had a case series.

How to write well written clear sentences in the methodology about the method ? Can you give an example ? As in total, the study is both: it asks questions about the past and you had a case series.
I think you can use your methods section text from above and just add one sentence: "We retrospectively assessed [goal of your study]". Then it should be clear!
