I am doing some literature review to better understand the processes of improving quality of maize grain. I'm interested in knowing what traits of maize grain are important in livestock and poultry feed.
Corn is an important component in Livestock and poultry feed lines. No doubt, nutrient profile of corn is primary criteria with regular observation for any aflatoxins. While during manufacturing, several other factors are adjustable such particle size after grinding and low moisture.
1- High content of Metabolizable energy
2- Low fiber content
3-Rich source of linolenic acid
4-Heavily palatable by birds
5-High content of carotene ( vitamin A generators) which responsible for color discoloration of skin in broiler and egg yolk color in layer hens.
No only Afaltoxin, like Said Mr.Abdul Ghayas, is very important to know that other mycotoxins have a negative impact not only on maize, but also on the animals that consume it, including humans.
These mycotoxins are given by the growth of different types of fungi in the field or in the storage of grain.
Quality protein Maize (QPM) contained higher amount of protein and good amino acids profile. So, QPM may be used in poultry diet with better ME and Protein value.
My further suggestions , you will get some of poultry related papers in the Research Gate on utilization of QPM in poultry diet.
Maize is one of the most used cereals in poultry production due to its relatively high digestility and nutrients. The demerit of white maize is its low carotene level which leads to the production of white meat. This might affect consumers choice where yellow meat is preferred.
