I’m planning to treat a highly contaminated petroleum refinery wastewater of a local petroleum refinery. I want to work on a project focused on the accelerated enzymatic biodegradation and COD removal of petroleum hydrocarbons using active bacterial biomass capable of in-situ generating peroxidase and biosurfactants.
Any prospective leads and suggestions would be highly appreciated.

The enhanced en enzymatic biodegradation of TPH by using diversed microbial consortia capable of in-situ production of peroxidase and biosurfactant generation in in a sequencing continuous - inflow reactor (SCR ) is a very efficient and promising technique for accelerated biodegradation and COD removal of petroleum hydrocarbons. In this process high amount of peroxidase is generated which efficiently mediate the TPH biodegradation in the SCR. The biomass produces a high concentration of biosurfactant in the presence of H2O2. I recommend two stage process. The first stage should be physical reduction of petroleum hydrocarbon concentration. The second stage should be biological one serving as a polishing step.
This solution is economically as well as technically feasible. First stage can reduce concentration of petroleum hydrocarbon concentration by > 90 % very cheap. The biological step which is much more expensive to opperate will reduce low concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbnons only.
