In my country, research is mainly done in public universities, funded by the govt. Previously the universities were under the Ministry of Higher Education. Schools and some colleges, like my college were within the Ministry of Education. But since the last election in May 2013, the 2 ministries were joined, and called Ministry of Education. But I still don't get a grant. But I just get on using my research to facilitate my students' learning.
Here in Brazil we have a very well developed system and fast walking for a moment of maturity.
The research is mainly developed in public universities like the university I'm working.
The government encourages research through the Research Council, CNPq (www.cnpq.br), and through funds such as the funding of projects, FINEP (www.finep.gov.br).
Currently, concessionaires of services such as water and electricity, are required by law to invest 2.5% of their gross annual revenues in research and development.
However, Brazil is still a very poor country and the distance of the research projects from what is really important is enormous.
Here research funding is provided by university for academic projects like of MS/Ph.D upto a certain amount limit with specific constraints of utilizing provided fund.
Another way of getting sponsorship is; have to prepare an excellent proposal and submit to different concerned authoritative organizations like ministry of science and technology, higher education commission. They provide fund for projects but in current scenario sponsored project is property of funding agency not of yours or your university.
In most University research are funded by University budget itself. and mostly for publication they support u 100% but for conference presentation they support for 50%.
I'm happy. I had funds from ACTR/ACCELS, Voronezh fund of Khovansky, Voronezh Teacher's Training institute, my smart and creative headmaster of Lyceum. Universities of Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana were interested in my work and supported me.The main sponsor is my family.I think, intellectuals always help intellectuals.
