In Egypt, Brucellosis still remaining one of the major diseases problems that affect animals industry as well as human health. Brucellosis is an endemic disease among human being in Egypt especially in agriculture governorates. B. melitensis is more dangerous for human than other species of genus Brucella. The infection resulted from the consumption of milk and milk products. B. melitensis biotype 3 is the prevalent type among cattle, sheep , goat, camel buffalo and swine. Phenotyping Brucella abortus revealed strains of B. abortus biovar 1, 12 and 3 strains.
Brucella abortus biovar 1 has been isolated by some members of Brucellosis Research Department, Animal Health Research Institute, Egypt from milk, supramammary and retropharyngeal lymph nodes and identified by convenient bacteriology, MLVA and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry (MS). We used to have Brucella abortus biovar 3, but it has been a while since we last isolated it
In Sudan, Brucella abortus biovar 6 has been identified frequently, followed by bv 1 and then few isolates of bv 3
