Just had an interesting assertion by a reviewer of a manuscript in a well regarded polymer journal.... that glucose is the monomeric unit of cellulose. I do still think this is wrong because the two β(1→4) linked glucoses in cellobiose units are in-equivalent. But I would be interested for a real polymer chemist's perspective on this.
