It depends on the design of your pin-disc tribotester. It's likely that the diameter of the sample is valid. It is important that the thickness of the sample was sufficient.
It depends on the tribometer type. I am working with DUCOM pin on disc wear apparatus. The minimum and maximum diameters are respectively 4 mm and 12 mm. I think 50 mm diameter pin is too much for a wear test. I have never read in literatures such a huge diameter pin for wear test.
