Some statistical literature says it to be 74.75. I am thinking that the emphasis given for tied scores affecting the median values doesn't make much difference practically based on the magnitude by which median differed. However, from a theoretical view point why is it so and is it that important to be considered in all cases of tied scores?

In this case 75 is repeated in 4th and 5th position in a set of 8 data points.
Therefore the median will be 75.
If it were 74 and 75 in the 4th and 5th positions the median would be 74.5.

This is un-grouped observations so the formulas would be the following
first rule : arrange in an ascending manner or descending
n/2 + 1 and n/2
so 8/2 + 1 = 5th and 8/2 = 4th and summation of both values / 2 = 75
