Hope you are doing well. I am working with the electron transport layer (ETL) of perovskite solar cells. I have come across several amorphous metal oxides being used as effective ETL. However, I was wondering how an amorphous oxide can transport electrons. It would be of great help if you kindly provide me with the mechanisms of transporting electrons by amorphous oxides.

Such oxides are intrinsically conductive with high conductivity. In addition energetically match the absorber in the sense they have conduction band edge that slightly lies under that of the absorber layer which means that the electron affinity of the oxide is larger than that of the absorber. This enables the photo generated electrons to easily transferred from the absorber layer to the ETL.
Also because of the wider band gap the valence band edge will lie much under the valence band of the absorber and thereby reflects the holes back to the absorber reducing the recombination losses.
