Probably areas of focal demyelination that cause ectopic firing at multiple sites along the axons. This is something I just learned from reading a chapter by Masrhall Devor, PhD in Melzack's Textbook of Pain.
I came across this chapter during search for neurophysiologic explanations of the symptoms /chronic pelvic pain.of pudendal neuropathy. It is the best information I have discovered in many years.
