According to Michal Matuszewski, et.al. PRA 79. 023814 (2009) and Michal Matuszewski, et.al. Optics Express Vol.16 No.2 (2008), I don't understand the concept of the parameter "Packing fraction". I am also unfamiliar with "Lower and higher branch" of stability in section of soliton interaction in Michal Matuszewski, et.al. PRA 79. 023814 (2009). Also I have not ever seen such definition of "Modulational Instability" in the manner of Michal Matuszewski, et.al. Optics Express Vol.16 No.2 (2008). It seems I have a little knowledge about these phrases or the descriptions are too brief. Can someone please help me with these keywords?
Article Spatial solitons and light-induced instabilities in colloidal media
Packing fraction of a colloidal suspension is the ratio between the volume occupied by the colloidal particles to the total volume of the suspension (including the solvent). Lower and higher branch of solitons correspond to the case when two solutions with the same power P but different propagation constant \kappa exist, eg. in fig 3a in Opt. Express, 2008. Modulation instability is a basic concept in nonlinear wave theory, and it corresponds to growth of small perturbations around a stationary solution. Hope it helps.
