During natural process of corrosion, a refined metal converts into a more chemically stable form such as oxide, hydroxide, or sulfide. It is the gradual destruction of materials (usually a metal) by chemical and/or electrochemical reaction with their environment. Essential oil components are inhibitors of corrosion and chaff out sulfides formed due to reaction of environmental gases. Essential oils found in peels, are natural inhibitors of corrosion. Waste peels of citrus family fruits could be used as anti-corrosive agents.
