To what extent is the theoretical part important in the Master's dissertation and Ph.D. thesis especially in the humanities and social disciplines?
Is it possible to dispense it and depend on brief definitions for the variables related to the research?
It's helping the researcher's to defined the researchs related on. And compare between it. And To now the method and planing for research.
As a Ph.D in Sociology, I could give you some advice about the theoretical part:
1. The theoretical part of the master's or PhD thesis is to present in a detailed form the state of the problem under study at the time of the research. In the theoretical part, the researcher shows his own erudition, the ability to systematize and conduct an analytical review of literary sources, to reason, to formulate conclusions. The more sources of information the researcher analyzes, the better, since the depth of the search is determined by the level of the researcher's work.
2. The theoretical chapter of the master's work consists of paragraphs. Their content is analytical and abstract.
3. Work with literature and selection of material. When you write a scientific work of any level, familiarity with published and unpublished sources begin with the development of an idea, that is, the design of the proposed research.
4. Search and selection of sources of literature, materials and documents is an important aspect of preliminary work. In the process of research, as a rule, new ones are added to the initial list of sources, but the main list of literature and working materials must be determined and studied before the start of active work on the text of the work.
5. The list of sources used makes it possible to largely assess the quality of the research done. So, the absence in the list of the latest materials or works recognized in the scientific community on the selected topic makes it possible to conclude that the work does not differ in the required depth of research and is not based on the latest achievements of scientific thought.

By validating and challenging theoretical assumptions, it facilitates the understanding of concepts and variables as per the given definitions and builds new knowledge.

ان النظري أهميته بأهمية الميداني ومن الخطأ ان نهتم بالجانب الميداني اكثر من الجانب النظري، نحن تخصص إنساني وليس كيمياء أو علوم، في العلوم لا نحتاج إلى تنظير نحتاج إلى تجربة كلقاح لفايروس، نريد نتيجة، نعم النظري مهم، ولكن ما النتيجة في الجانب الطبيعي، ولكن نحن علوم إنسانية.
النظري مهم بمستوى الميداني بل وفي بعض الأحيان اكثر أهمية، النظري ولست من مؤيدين الكتابة مثلا في تعريف العلاقات العامة وكذا أشياء موجودة، لكن أعطيني بفصل نظري عن العلاقة بين العلاقات العامة والسياحة، عن العلاقة بين العلاقات العامة والرياضة وهذا بمستوى أهمية الفصل الميداني، ولا يجوز الربط أو المقارنة مع العلوم الأخرى التجريبية..، العلوم الإنسانية تحتاج إلى استعراض النظري، تحتاج إلى وضع أساسات بما سنفعله في الميداني، واحد علماء علم الاجتماع يقول لكل سؤال في الميداني يجب ان يكون عرض في النظري،
